Hundreds audition for a part in Nativity! The Musical in Wolverhampton
Hundreds of youngsters from across the Black Country and beyond sung their hearts out to bag a part in Nativity! The Musical.
The hit show is opening at The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton on October 29 where it will stay until November 2 before touring the country and finishing in London on December 29.
Children travelled from all across the country to audition at The Pavilion Club in Stafford Road over the weekend, where they sung and danced for a place in the touring musical.
Boys and girls aged eight to 10 lined up in front of casting directors and first sung their chosen songs, some going for classic musical hits such as Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, while others went for Disney melodies such as A Whole New World and one boy gave his own rendition of Eiffel 65's I'm Blue.
Some were chosen to return for another audition next month, while others were handed a certificate for auditioning and sent home.
The storyline is based on a nativity at St Bernadette’s School where teacher Mr Maddens has promised that a Hollywood producer is coming to see the show to turn it into a film.
Seb Straughton, aged nine, travelled from his home in Manchester with his mother Debbie on Saturday to audition.
Seb said: "I sung If Only You Would Listen from School of Rock.
"I was very nervous but I feel safer now and more excited."
Debbie, 38, added: "He started performing at the age of four and has been at theatre school for a year.
"I'm feeling very proud!"
While nine-year-old Cash Tilston sung And You Don't Even Know It from Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
Cash, from Warrington, said: "I was very nervous and excited but I wish I could do it all again."
Children’s casting directors Emily and LJ Keston said: “We saw over 300 children this weekend who auditioned for leading roles in the St Bernadette’s class in the show, successful children from these auditions will tour the country with ‘Nativity! The Musical’ for three months.
"There’s lots of great talent in the Midlands and it’s great to see children from Wolverhampton and the surrounding areas all turn out to see us, everyone is having lots fun!”
