The Enville Street Dramatic Society will perform radio play If You're Glad I'll Be Frank and the dramatised play The Real Inspector Hound at Holy Trinity Amblecote Hall next month.

The radio play is being staged with a prequel, which has been written by the society's director Ian Howarth. It is set in April 1966 and the staff of a small provincial radio station find themselves in a fix over who is going to step up to the mark.

Mr Howarth said: "When I first suggested ideas for this evening I did not envisage writing a brand new play set in a radio studio. It soon became clear that we needed something to complement our first presentation.

"I started to ask questions about why anyone would want to present a radio play in Amblecote. I kept asking questions and the answers kept appearing until, hey presto, I found myself in the middle of the comedy drama you will see this evening”.

While in the radio play 'If You're Glad I'll Be Frank', bus driver Frank recognises Gladys, the voice of the speaking clock, as his lost wife and sets out to free her from the Post Office.

The second half of the evening sees Stoppard's comic masterpiece 'The Real Inspector Hound' brought to life.

The plays will be performed between April 3 and 6 at 7.30pm.
