Funny business at Black Country festival

The Wolverhampton Stand Up Comedy Challenge is planned to return on May 16 if enough entrants can be found.

It is sponsored by the Black Country Chamber of Commerce and the Black Country Business Festival.

Organisers are now putting out a call for all those business people brave enough for the challenge, asking them to step forward into the spotlight and take the microphone to raise funds for charity during the business festival.

Last year's winner was Iain Watkins, associate director of IT and data at the Wolverhampton Grand Theatre.

Applications are now being sought for the challenge which is supported each year by people from a variety of organisations and businesses who take up the challenge to write and perform their first five minutes of original stand-up comedy live on stage in front of their colleagues, clients, friends and family.

An entry fee covers the cost of training, mentoring, venue hire and the production of a video of each performance.

The challenge is exclusively for people with no or very minimal stand-up experience.

The charitable event presented by Associate Events will raise money for The Big Difference Company charity – a Midlands-based organisation that is committed to life changing schemes and projects – if it goes ahead.
