'It should be a boster': Black Country comedian Jonny Cole talks ahead of Robin 2 show
A chance meeting in a pub has prompted Black Country comedy songsmith Jonny Cole to embark on a new exciting phase of his career.
Wednesbury-based Jonny has built up a wide fan base with his solo performances and now he has linked up with a band, The Flat Pint of Mild.
They will perform at the Robin 2 in Bilston tomorrow with a range of material, which has given Jonny the chance to showcase some new parody songs.
“I bumped into an old friend, Greg Lake (aka Cozey Leggins) in the pub I hadn’t seen since we were in a band when we went to performing arts college together,” said Jonny. “I remember him being the best guitarist I had ever seen back then and we were only babbies. He had seen some of my material online.
“After a few pints and trips down memory lane, he suggested we took my act to the next level and put a live band behind it. He was the link to the other guys as he works with them on other projects. Working with such talented lads give me the freedom to parody so many songs that I wouldn’t usually be able to do and there will be a few surprises for my following.
“If the audience enjoy watching the show as much as we enjoy performing, it should be a boster.”
Guitarist Greg Lake added: “It’s been fun to work with an old mate again although this show is way different to anything we have ever done before. We are buzzing about the show at the Robin 2. It’s one of the best venues around and suits this show down to the ground.”
Since his breakthrough with his comedy songs back in 2014, Jonny has cemented his name on the Midlands entertainment circuit and has been voted Best Midlands Comedian finalist by What’s On magazine readers for the second year running.
