Art Noveau curtain to be used for La Traviata performance at Wolverhampton Grand Theatre
An antique Art Noveau cloth will appear in a famed opera coming to Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre this week.
The 1920s piece will be hung for audiences of Verdi's La Traviata - which will be performed at the Lichfield Street venue on Friday.
The curtain has been donated to the production by the director of an opera and ballet museum in Moldova.
La Traviata is based on a true story, and tells the tale of the passionate loves and life of the consumptive courtesan, Violetta. There are also many echoes of Verdi’s own life in the show.
Highlights of the show include the Brindisi, the best known drinking song in opera, the duet Un Di Felice and Violetta’s haunting aria Addio Del Passato.
La Traviata comes to Wolverhampton's Grand Theatre on March 23.
