A Staffordshire town centre's nightlife is getting a much needed boost this weekend with opening of a new sports and entertainment bar.
Pitchers, Lower Gungate, is in the site of the much-loved Coreys bar, and will have live music as well as screening every major sporting event.
Pitchers guests can enjoy live sports, live music, food, and expertly crafted beers and cocktails. The venue has been completely refurbished and modernised by the new management, incorporating the latest technology, including interactive darts and a contactless pool table, ensuring an engaging and modern experience for everyone who walks through the door.
There are multiple screens throughout the venue, including three massive 150-inch LED super screens, punters can catch up on the latest games in comfort and style. Whether it’s rugby, cricket, football, or NFL, Pitchers ensures that all major sporting events are broadcast live, with up to three different games shown simultaneously. This will include all Sky, TNT and Amazon Prime football games as well as the big fights, starting with the Fury vs Usyk rematch on December 21.
Jason Pegg, the venue's manager, said: “We wanted to create a space where sports fans can come together, relax, and enjoy the action in an incredible setting. “With state-of-the-art screens and technology, we’re offering something that Tamworth has been crying out for—an immersive, all-encompassing sports bar experience.”
Pitchers is serving up a fantastic selection of wholesome food daily, from 12pm to 9pm. The menu includes everything from loaded fries, burgers, wings, and hot dogs to hearty fish & chips and small plates perfect for sharing. Whether you’re after a light bite or a full meal, there’s something for everyone at Pitchers.
In addition to sports and food, Pitchers will host regular live music nights, showcasing local talent across genres including classic rock, pop, indie, and more. With something for every taste, these live performances promise to add an extra layer of fun and energy to the bar’s lively atmosphere.
“I’ve always loved Tamworth’s vibrant social scene, and we want to work with other local bars to create a thriving hospitality area,” said Jason. “Our goal is to give people a place to enjoy not just the games, but great food, music, and company, all in one amazing venue.”
Mr Pegg added: “We want to make sure the people of Tamworth and the visitors to the town get a safe, welcoming environment and we will make sure that we work with stakeholders across the town”.
This weekend, Pitchers kicks off its grand opening with a free live music event featuring Celtic and Rock cover band Bang on the Ear, followed by local DJ "Ask Jason" spinning tunes until 1am. On Saturday, the bar will open at 11am, showing live sports from 12:30pm, with highlights including Nottingham Forest vs. Aston Villa at 5:30pm. The night will continue with live music from Cantina Band and a DJ set.
The Manchester Derby will also be a highlight of the weekend with a Sunday afternoon kick off drawing in a big crowd.
