Bower festival postponed and collection buckets are stolen
The Lichfield Greenhill Bower has been postponed again this year due to Covid but organisers have also been left dismayed by the theft of a trailer containing 150 of their collection buckets.
The lock was forced at the Bower’s compound at Wiltell Road and the trailer stolen sometime between Saturday, April 10, and last Friday, April 16.
Bower chairman Michael Mullarkey said the trailer, which was donated some years ago, has been useful but the theft of the buckets is “a big nuisance” as they are essential for the charity collections made in the Bower Day procession.
“We will be looking for a replacement trailer in due course and we now have to buy 150 new buckets,” said Michael.
“They have not been recovered and all have The Lichfield Greenhill Bower stamped on the side so if anyone spots them they will know they have been pinched.”
Michael said that although the Bower, one of the oldest fairs in the country, won’t be taking place next month there are outline plans to hold a two-day event next year.
This would coincide with the celebrations to mark HM The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee which will see the May Bank Holiday moved to Thursday June 2, and an extra Bank Holiday on Friday June 3.
