The town centre venue, which recently received a Government Culture Recovery Fund grant, will reopen on Monday.

It has been closed since shortly before the national lockdown in March. Details of shows at the Prince of Wales Theatre will be announced shortly.

It comes as Wolverhampton Grand Theatre yesterday announced shows will be returning to its stage in December.

Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, which manages the theatre on behalf of Cannock Chase District Council, said new measures have been put in place in line with current guidance in order to provide adequate social distancing to keep both staff and visitors safe.

Visitors will be asked to follow directional signage which has been placed on site.

Sanitising points have also been placed around the building and theatre goers will be required to wear face masks. Masks can be removed while eating or drinking snacks which must be pre-ordered before attending.

Chris Derbyshire, deputy managing director at Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles, said: “We are delighted to be able to open the doors of the theatre again.

"The Prince of Wales Theatre is a huge attraction and of great cultural significance locally and regionally.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming visitors and performers back.”

Councillor Christine Mitchell, Cannock Chase District Council's portfolio leader for culture and sport, added: “The reopening of the Prince of Wales Theatre is great for the cultural offer in Cannock Chase and a significant step in the revival of the arts locally and regionally.

“I am excited to see people welcomed back to the theatre and ask that visitors follow the measures that have put in place to ensure the safety of staff, performers and customers.”

Bookings can be made over the phone by calling 01543 578 762 and in person at the box office at the theatre.
