Scarlett Young, 13, and her sibling Sasha, 11, have unveiled their latest range of hand-painted pebbles after demand for the first batch rocketed and within a few days outstripped their supply.

The Stafford Grammar and Prep School pupils began collecting and decorating stones during lockdown.

Scarlett said: “We painted every day and ended up making so many that we didn’t know what to do with them all. That’s when we thought we could try to sell them and give the money to a good cause."

The enterprising youngsters set up a display on their garden wall at Woodseaves with a box for donations.

A popular route with walkers, the colourful collection soon attracted the attention of passersby and began selling like hotcakes.

Requests for specific designs flooded in and they even got an order from the village school as well as primary schools Haughton and Gnosall.

Scarlett added: “They were really popular and within two days we’d sold 60. We were so surprised when people wanted more.

"We’ve done lots of different pictures, but in particular loads of hedgehogs, butterflies, bees and toadstools. Art is one of my favourite subjects so I’m really enjoying it and it’s been something a bit different which has kept us off our devices."

Having raised £1,400 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital, Scarlett and Sasha decided to forage along country lanes for more pebbles to rebuild their stock.

Their latest creations are on display on their garden wall and the girls believe they are a stone’s throw from collecting another £500 for the charity.
