Stafford man overcomes learning difficulties to write book
An author, who has overcome mental health problems and learning difficulties, has had a children's book published.
David Alan Stone, aged 50, from Stafford, wrote The Adventures of Tom, Jack and Joe over the last 12 months.
The story follows the adventures of three brothers who live with their parents and go exploring, finding fantasy lands and magical creatures and consists of 10 short stories.
David said: "The stories are magical, I get my inspiration when I go out for walks and see things or sometimes even through dreams.
"When I am writing the stories I feel like I am there with the characters, it is such a lovely feeling."
From a young age David has suffered with mental health problems and learning difficulties, however he has overcome them to pursue his dream of becoming a writer.
He added: "I had to attend a special needs school because I am about 10 years behind others my age, I also found it hard to mix with other children.
"It is not easy sometimes, and sometimes I do go into myself.
"This is a big achievement for me.
"I have a lot of other stories that I have written already and I hope to continue writing even more in the future."
David's sister Liz Walmsley, said: "It has not been easy for him and I am here to help him when he needs me.
"He has overcome all of the odds to do this and to write his book, we are so proud of him for achieving this."
