Chasetown Christmas event debut a success
Around 1,000 people attended a first-of-its kind Christmas event in a Staffordshire village.
A group of businesses joined forces to put on a wide range of festive attractions in Chasetown, including a lights switch-on, craft market, free fairground rides, mulled wine and mince pies.
"The evening was a big success and very well attended by around 1,000 local people and visitors,” explained Charmaine Sweeney of house building company Cameron Homes, based in the High Street, which was one of the companies behind the event.
Cameron worked in partnership with other local business, including Chasetown Civil Engineering and Burntwood Town Council, to fund and organise the evening.
"There was a fabulous community spirit on the night, with everyone enjoying themselves.
"This was the first time this has happened and we were delighted with the way the High Street was transformed into a Christmas scene, with Santa and his elves making an appearance," Charmaine said.
Entertainment was provided by Jason Jones from BBC’s The Voice, a choir from St Joseph and St Teresa Roman Catholic Primay School, as well as local bands from Erasmus Darwin Academy and the local scout group.
"We met every week for six months to pull this evening together and it was reminiscent of the sort of Christmas fun Chasetown saw 20 years ago," Charmaine added.
