Staffordshire author reinvents British classical folktale for contemporary audience
A Staffordshire author has will have her work published a collection or works celebrating the rich cultural history and tradition of the United Kingdom.
Mahsuda Snaith, winner of the SI Leeds Literary Prize 2014, is one of eight women who were tasked with refreshing classic British folk tales to make them more appealing to modern audiences.
The collection, called Hag, will be released via Audible on August 29. It will only be available in audio form, building on the age-old tradition of oral storytelling.
Snaith’s The Panther’s Tale is a retelling of the old Staffordshire Legend of Chillington Hall, which tells the story of Sire John Giffard and his love for wild animals.
The story incorporates new elements with healing herbs and Indian goddesses, while magical transformations all form part of the plot.
Other participants include Sunday Times Best Seller winner Daisy Johnson.
Unpublished Folk tales have been chosen from areas across the UK such as Cornwall, Essex, London, Wales and Scotland.
