Canine competitors of all breeds will be battling it out at the event organised by Rainbow Dog Rescue on Sunday, July 9.

The show will be one of the attractions at the Wombourne-based charity's third annual fun day at Baggeridge Country Park.

Classes, which cost £1 to enter on the day, include waggiest tail, wettest kiss, biggest smile, dog that most looks like their owner, best rescue, junior handler, golden oldie and cutest puppy as well as best dog, best bitch and best in show.

The Baggeridge Dog Agility Group will be giving a demonstration of their talents at the event, which starts at 11am.

There will also be a variety of stalls to browse and refreshments available.

Entrance to the event is free but donations are well.

All proceeds will go to Rainbow Dog Rescue, which has a charity shop in Windmill Bank, Wombourne, and has been running since 2012.

It takes in dogs of all breeds and is committed to giving them a second chance.

Founder Angelina Patel says the charity cares for dogs of all breeds, adding: "We take in dogs that are often on death row in order to give them a second chance of life and when people can't look after them any more.

"All the dogs are spayed or neutered and fully vaccinated before we look for a new home.

"We try to find the best homes we can and always carry out checks before letting dog go. We also check on them afterwards to ensure the owners are getting on okay to give them support."

The money generated by the fun day and the shop go towards paying vet bills and providing care for dogs the charity looks after while it tries to find them a permanent home.

The charity, which depends on volunteers and is funded by donations, is always on the lookout for foster homes for its rescue dogs as well as volunteers.
