Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were alarmed when a fire broke out in John Torode’s kitchen during a live cooking segment on This Morning.

The ITV hosts frantically tried to get the chef’s attention as a tea towel burst into flames on the stove behind him as he taught them how to make breakfast McMuffins from his home.

Willoughby could be heard shouting: “John, your tea towel is on fire! Turn around! Turn around!” as Schofield shouted: “Behind you! Cooker! Behind you, John! You’re on fire! Fire, John!”

The MasterChef star calmly picked up the blazing tea towel and dropped it into the sink before running the tap, telling the hosts: “I will just open the back door.”

Torode resumed the cooking demonstration but his fire alarm went off, prompting Willoughby and Schofield to descend into fits of giggles, as Willoughby waved her tea towel around as if at a smoke alarm.

Schofield said: “Oh my god, I love this show so much.”

After Torode finished showing them how to make the breakfast, Willoughby told him: “I can’t believe that happened. Go and have a lie down now in a dark room.”
