Joe Lycett has said he went “power mad” while filming the latest series of Got Your Back.

The TV star, 31, presents the consumer show on Channel 4 and recently changed his name by deed poll to Hugo Boss to taunt the fashion company.

He told the PA news agency that presenting the programme, in which he takes on large corporations on behalf of the consumer, had ruined his enjoyment of filming TV.

Lycett, from Hall Green in Birmingham, said: “I was just saying to my agent that any kind of future job that I do, if I end up hosting something else, will sort of feel a little bit like ‘What’s the point?’ because you’re not actually getting anything done.

“It’s great to be on a panel show and piss about, but actually, to be able to piss about and then also get people’s money back and change policies and all that is such a… I’m essentially going power mad this series, and I think I’ll end up either destroying myself or becoming some sort of dictator in the next couple of years.

“In fact I emailed the head of Channel 4 after the last series and I think I said it would be irresponsible for him to recommission the show because of how mad with power I was getting.

“So you can blame Ian Katz, the head of Channel 4, for whatever happens.”

Lycett said an appearance on reality TV in shows such as I’m A Celebrity or Strictly Come Dancing is off the cards.

“No, thank you,” he said.

“I mean, who knows? There might come a point when I really need the money, but at this point, I don’t.

“And I also… I never wanted to be famous, I just wanted to be creative for my job, I suppose, and perform.

“I like to show off. But I’m not fussed about fame particularly, I don’t go to things and I don’t go to celeb events or whatever, that’s not really my vibe.

“But then, if I need a load of money, for an operation or something, I would probably change my tune on that one.

“But for now, I’m not really interested in all those things. But I do love Strictly, and I have gone to watch it a couple of times.”

Joe Lycett’s Got Your Back returns to Channel 4 on Friday April 10.
