Kylie Jenner has donated one million US dollars (£762,000) towards the relief effort in Australia after the country was devastated by wildfires, a representative for the star has said.

So far 25 people have been killed, 2,000 homes have been destroyed and millions of animals are feared to have died after an area twice the size of the US state of Maryland was scorched.

Jenner, who was criticised for an “intensive” social media post amid the fires, has become the latest celebrity to support the relief effort.

The cosmetics billionaire has donated $1 million USD, according to a representative.

It comes after Jenner was criticised for posting a picture of her baby pink Louis Vuitton slides, which were made with mink fur, shortly after a post about the people and animals suffering in Australia.

Jenner, 22, follows Sir Elton John in donating money.

Sir Elton pledged $1 million, announcing the news on stage in Sydney.

He added: “This is a magnificent country that I’ve been coming to since 1971.

“I love it here so much. To see what is happening here breaks my heart and so we have to come together and we have to fight, and this is my bit towards it.”

Sir Elton did not say whether his donation was in Australian or US dollars, which would be worth around £524,000 and £762,000 respectively.

Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has also pledged one million dollars towards the relief fund.

He told his 39 million followers on Instagram: “Like you, I want to support the fight against the bushfires here in Australia.

“My family and I are contributing a million dollars. Hopefully you guys can chip in too.

“Every penny counts so whatever you can muster up is greatly appreciated.”

Fellow Australian Kylie Minogue has also pledged $500,000 to help with the response to the fire.

The devastating fires took centre stage at the Golden Globes on Sunday, where stars including Russell Crowe, Cate Blanchett and Nicole Kidman highlighted the situation in Australia.

Fleabag star and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge revealed she would be auctioning off the suit she wore to the award ceremony and donating the proceeds towards the response to the fires.

Singer Pink has also donated half a million dollars to the cause.
