Charlie Sloth has announced that he has left BBC Radio 1 following his foul-mouthed outburst at an awards ceremony this week.

The BBC said earlier this month that Sloth would leave Radio 1 and 1Xtra after 10 years at both stations.

However, today he posted on Twitter to tell his followers he had decided not to fulfil his last outstanding shows.

He wrote: “I’ve decided not to do the remaining 10 shows on the BBC that I initially agreed. I love you all. Thank you.”

On Thursday night, Sloth lost out to fellow Radio 1 DJ Edith Bowman at the Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS) in Leeds.

Footage from Twitter shows Sloth taking to the stage and telling her “f*** your life” to resounding boos from the crowd.

Sloth stormed on stage and said “Edith Bowman, f*** your life”, adding “I just wanna say BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra, Saturday night Rap Show, f*** your life”.

Bowman responded on Twitter the next day with a post saying she hoped the DJ was “feeling ok”.

Earlier today, he posted another message, saying that he had apologised to Bowman.

He wrote: “Soooo the Arias… It was supposed to be a bit of bants with me jumping on stage, starting with me saying ‘OK ima let you finish (sic).’

“It wasn’t directed at Edith, I love Edith and like I said so does my Mum. I’ve apologised to Edith privately, I’m sorry to anyone I upset.”

A representative for Radio One said: “We have agreed with Charlie Sloth that he will not be presenting any further editions of The 8th and The Rap Show for Radio 1 and 1Xtra.

“New presenters will be announced for both shows in coming weeks.”

Sloth is known for his popular Fire In The Booth segment, which has attracted appearances from stars including Stormzy, Bugzy Malone and Drake.
