The Crown actress Vanessa Kirby has hinted that the Queen is a fan of the Netflix series, which is based on the monarch’s life.

The 30-year-old has played Princess Margaret for two runs of the popular royal drama, but will be replaced by Helena Bonham Carter for the third series.

“It’s quite a reliable source – ish – so I am sure she is a fan.”

The Crown, created by Peter Morgan, will see the cast changed in keeping with the ageing of the characters.

The first series portrayed the earlier days of the Queen’s reign and the second covered the period from 1956 until 1963.

Broadchurch star Olivia Colman will take over the role of Queen Elizabeth II from Claire Foy, while Tobias Menzies will play the Duke of Edinburgh, the role previously played by former Doctor Who star Matt Smith, in the third series, due to be screened next year.

Kirby has been nominated in the supporting actress category at this Sunday’s TV Bafta awards for her portrayal of the Queen’s younger sister.

Referencing her royal character, she told Norton: “I love her with all my heart. I couldn’t love her more.”
