Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing managed to bake the worst cake ever seen in the Great British Bake Off tent, according to judge Paul Hollywood.

The reality TV star’s banana loaf cake failed to impress during Tuesday night’s The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer and left Prue Leith spitting it into the bin.

Laing was joined by Scottish Conservative leader Ruth Davidson, comedian Tim Minchin and singer Ella Eyre on the show – with Davidson taking the star baker prize.

“That has to be the worst cake ever baked in the tent,” Hollywood told Laing as he compared it to a pork pie because of its greyish complexion.

Despite his struggle in the first task, Laing – whose great-great-grandfather, Alexander Grant invented the digestive biscuit – recovered in the second task in which he had to follow in his ancestor’s footsteps.

His eclair biscuits came in second place and Laing also impressed in the showstopper round, with Leith telling him she was “astonished” at his improvement.

Laing celebrated his title as baker of the worst cake in the show’s history, writing on Twitter: “So I created a new recipe, got the award for the worst cake ever made in the tent and I’m still having fun.”

@Kit_C_D posted on Twitter that Grant would be “turning in his grave right now”.

@DavidMackayy wrote: “Jamie won the award for the worst cake ever on #gbbo, at least it’s still an achievement.”

@LucyHumph89 posted: “Absolutely hysterical watching #GBBO #StandUpToCancer @JamieLaing_UK ‘s pork pie cake. i’m impressed he managed to create that incipid grey colour in a bake and don’t feel he got enough credit for originality!”

@CharlotteSargent tweeted: “Trust Jamie to make the worst cake ever!”
