This year’s Strictly Come Dancing couples will take to the dance floor for the first time tonight as the live competition finally kicks off.

After two weeks of intense training, they will don their sparkling outfits and dancing shoes as they begin the battle to claim the coveted glitterball trophy.

The BBC 1 contest’s hotly-anticipated 15th season will welcome a fresh batch of 15 celebrity contestants, three new professional dancers and former international Latin star Shirley Ballas, who will make her debut as head judge following Len Goodman’s departure last year.

But there have been few other changes to the much-loved show, and fans will tune in on Saturday to see panel members Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli return to their judging seats, while Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly reprise their roles as presenters.
