American Crime Story about Versace murder to air on BBC Two

It will star Edgar Ramirez as the fashion designer.

A new series of American Crime Story telling the story of the assassination of fashion designer Gianni Versace will air on BBC Two, the broadcaster has announced.

The next instalment, detailing the murder in the summer of 1997, will be a follow-up to the Bafta and Emmy winning series The People v O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

Point Break star Edgar Ramirez will play Versace while Penelope Cruz will star as his sister Donatella.

The first episode will be directed by executive producer Ryan Murphy and the series is written by Tom Rob Smith, who penned London Spy.

Sue Deeks, head of BBC programme acquisition, added: “With The People v. O.J. Simpson, the brilliant Ryan Murphy and his team crafted a unique and utterly compelling television event which managed to get the nation talking once more about one of the biggest cases in history.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story will air on BBC Two in 2018.
