The pair casually rocked up at Oxford Circus tube station before later heading over to Trafalgar Square.
Liam, 23, was dressed in a black jacket and black jeans with a gold chain and white trainers.
He looked relaxed as crowds quickly gathered to take pictures of the performance.
He sang into a microphone and danced around as onlookers formed a circle around him.
Meanwhile Zedd, collaborated with Liam on Get Low, looked the epitome of cool as he played a keyboard plugged into a backpack he wore over his black and bronze jacket.
The DJ teased they were on their way to an impromptu performance when he posted video of the duo singing Liam's song Strip That Down in the car together via his Instagram account.
Revealing their plans to perform elsewhere in London, Zedd then took to his Twitter account, writing: "London - @LiamPayne and I are heading to Trafalgar Square to perform a little fun rendition of Get Low for you - in 10mins! Come through."
He later posted an image of himself crouched on a pavement with Liam showing off his strength by holding himself upside down on a lamppost.
The duo released Get Low on July 7 which peaked at Number 26 in the UK Singles Chart.
Dozens of people posted videos and pictures of the performances on social media yesterday.
Payne and girlfriend Cheryl Tweedy welcomed baby Bear into the world in March.
He later said he felt like a “changed man” since becoming a father.
