Liam Gallagher labelled himself as a rock ‘n’ roll “cliche” as he explained how his relationship with Noel was crucial to making Oasis work.

Despite the well-known tensions between himself and his former bandmate and big brother, he said the hit 1990s rock group would never have worked with “two Liams”.

Crediting Noel with writing the songs that made the brothers famous, the Wall Of Glass singer told GQ magazine: “That was Noel’s thing, my thing was the whole cliche: the sex, the drugs, the rock’n’roll.

He added: “I know how much it annoyed him, he did the graft while I went out and undid the graft, but Oasis wouldn’t have worked with two Liams or two Noels.”

But now, with his own debut solo As You Were on the way, the 44-year-old described himself as “the real rock star” compared with his brother’s “rock star life”.

Gallagher also spoke about his turbulent relationship with his own family and admitted that he would be happy to make contact with his estranged eldest daughter Molly, who he shares with Lisa Moorish.

But he admitted that Molly is “better off with her mum”, and said: “She’s welcome in my world… I’m open to everything, but at the moment it ain’t happening.

“The girl’s been looked after and clothed and fed and sent to lovely schools. I bought them a house and all that tack.

“They aren’t good when they are forced, these things… if it happens it happens. Certainly, wouldn’t turn her away.”
