Ed Sheeran leads tight race for singles chart top spot
The Shape Of You singer is back in pole position.
Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles and Clean Bandit look set to battle it out for the number one spot on this week’s Official UK Singles Chart.
At the moment, Ed is back in front with Shape Of You which has kept him as a regular fixture at the top end of the chart since January, and he has another track, Galway Girl, currently at number three.
One Direction star Harry debuted his first solo single Sign Of The Times at number one last week, but has now dropped to fourth position, while Clean Bandit’s Symphony featuring Zara Larsson has made its way back up to number two, having previously peaked at three.
Just 5,000 copies separate all four tracks at this point in the week, meaning number one could be anyone’s prize out of the three acts.
Kendrick Lamar looks likely to score a UK top 10 hit with Humble, which has risen to number nine since the release of his new album Damn. on Friday.
He also has five other tracks – DNA, Loyalty, Element, Love and Yah – expected to make Friday’s top 40.
Lady Gaga is on course to rack up her 19th UK top 40 hit with The Cure, currently sitting at number 25 following its debut during her headline Coachella slot on Saturday.
Over on the Official UK Album Chart, Ed is enjoying more success with his most recent record Divide looking as though it could secure a seventh week at number one.
His closest challenger is Kendrick, whose new release Damn. is in second place.
Other new albums set to debut in the top 40 this week include Tinie Tempah’s third studio album Youth which is currently at number eight, John Mayer’s The Search For Everything at 11, and The King Blues’ The Gospel Truth which starts the week at number 30.
The Official Chart With Greg James airs on Fridays from 4pm to 5.45pm on BBC Radio 1.
