Former MasterChef contestants have returned to the show to hail a guinea fowl dish prepared by an aspiring chef as “the best thing ever tasted in the room”.
Alex Rushmer, who was a finalist in 2010, appeared alongside the winner of that series Dhruv Baker and fellow finalist Tim Kinnaird as guest judges and heaped praise on a dish knocked up by yurt builder Faye.
Alex said the roasted guinea fowl, stuffed guinea fowl leg with wild mushrooms and braised fennel was “the best thing I’ve tasted in this room ever, ” while presenter Gregg Wallace praised the hopeful’s touch as “magnificent”, adding: “She has captured the confidence and smartness of damn good cooking in simple style.”
She sailed through to the quarter-finals of the cooking show alongside 27-year-old Alex from Winchester, who impressed with his miso smoked mackerel and caramel pear tart, which Dhruv praised as “the dessert of the day”.
American contestant Sharon also secured a place after serving up a duck breast with spiced compote and a rose and cardamom cake.
Viewers at home also took to Faye, who were particularly enamoured by her grey hair.
MasterChef continues on Thursday at 8pm on BBC One.
