X Factor guru Simon Cowell today warned his boyband hopefuls One Direction that they 'haven't necessarily got a career' ahead of tonight's show.

Thousands turned out to see Cowell's boyband One Direction in Wolverhampton on Tuesday and the footage will be seen on ITVtonight.

And he said he had 'never seen anything like the response from Black Country fans' in his life.

Wolverhampton singer Liam Payne and his band will perform with Robbie Williams before one of the acts is eliminated ahead of tomorrow's final.

Cowell said: "We went to Wolverhampton and I've never seen anything like it in my life. It was mania.

"Having said that I don't want people to think they've necessarily got a career. I want people to to vote for them because they want to win the show.

"I really like the boys and they are genuinely some of the nicest people I've ever worked with.

"They're polite to the crew. You can tell what an artist is really like if they are polite off camera and the way they treat the people around them, the fans."

However, he thinks rival singer Matt Cardle's large female fan base could clinch the X Factor crown.

He said: "I would put him as favourite, then I'd put One Direction and Rebecca as second favourites, and Cher the outsider."
