Sandwell and Birmingham Mela event cancelled
Organisers of the popular Sandwell and Birmingham Mela have been forced to cancel the summer event due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event, which attracts thousands every year, had been due to take place in Victoria Park, in Smethwick, on the weekend of July 18 and 19.
But organisers have been forced to cancel the event – and plan ahead for the 2021 event.
A spokesman for the event said: "The Sandwell and Birmingham Mela will no longer be taking place this year.
"This decision has not been taken lightly and we have tried our hardest to make it work, but it was unavoidable given the current status.
"We were all excited to welcome everyone to the Mela and celebrate our 10th birthday together.
"The safety of our audience, artists, volunteers, workers and partners is paramount and we appreciate your patience whilst we have been working through this unprecedented situation.
"We hope everyone stays safe and we will see you in 2021."
Next year's event will take place on July 17 and 18, 2021.
