Singer Patty G from Rugeley attracts more than 21,000 streams with single
A singer from Staffordshire has shot to fame after his first single attracted more than 21,000 streams on Spotify.
Patrick Grainger, from Rugeley, started producing his own music during the start of lockdown in March last year.
The artist, better known as Patty G, has since released his song Rose Garden – which has racked up 21,094 streams.
He said: "I've been playing guitar and singing since I was 15 years old and about a year ago, I started looking into music production and how you write and produce your own song.
"I wrote it about my girlfriend and I wrote and recorded it and some other guys helped me produce it. It's done a lot better than I ever expected – it's attracted around 21,000 streams, which is crazy.
"It's been streamed in over 50 countries so it's gone crazy, but I'm really happy with it. I really didn't expect it at all.
"I released a song before that called Don't Know and that attracted about 700 views, so I wasn't expecting it to be this huge.
"It just happened overnight, really, it went from under 500 streams to about 6,000 streams and every day it was going up and up."
The 23-year-old said it took him around a week to write the song and a few weeks to get to get it produced – with some help from others.
The artist, who has been influenced by James Blunt, Travis and Coldplay, is set to release his debut EP on March 29.
