Holly Thomas, aged 18, started an apprenticeship for the NHS in September as a clinical support worker, she is now working on an coronavirus isolation ward at Russell's Hall Hospital in Dudley.

The youngster from Woodcross, Wolverhampton, is an aspiring nurse who has had a passion for music since she was a child.

Emma Connor Thomas, her mum aged 43, said: "Holly has always been passionate about singing and music but has never had the confidence to perform in front of people, even though she has a beautiful voice."

Emma recorded her daughter singing Vera Lynn's The White Cliffs of Dover and posted it to her Facebook page hoping to spread a message of hope to her friends, since then it has been viewed by thousands of people across the country.

Watch Holly singing:

Holly said "I know how upsetting and stressful it is for front line workers, caring for the most sick and vulnerable people at this time, but I've always found that music can really lift people's spirits.

"I chose the song White Cliffs of Dover because the words in it are relatable to us all at the moment and the song gives us hope that this will all be over soon.

"I hoped that my video would bring a smile and hope to every one, not just key workers but also people at home.

"I only expected close family and friends to see my video but the reaction has been amazing. The video has had 15,000 views already and I'm overwhelmed by everyone's lovely comments.

"It was nice going into work the next day to find my colleagues had watched my video and said how much they enjoyed watching it and it had put them in a better mood."
