Pipe up and join a new club with special showcase hosted by gallery
People with a musical bone or two in their body can pick up a new hobby this weekend courtesy of a pipe band, or one of many others involved in a showcase Fancy learning a new hobby?.
This Sunday, Wolverhampton Art Gallery is hosting a free event in celebration of local community groups and societies, where people can meet representatives from an array of organisations and find their new favourite hobby.
The event, called Showcase Wolves, is being organised by The Wolverhampton Society and will run from 11.30am and 4.30pm.
Guests can enjoy a short performance by the Wolverhampton Pipe Band at 2pm, meet the St John Ambulance mascot Bertie the Badger, try out the Beacon Centre’s simulation specs, donate items to the Homeless Period campaign, try out a game of chess with the Wolverhampton Chess Club, and explore local history and objects with The Wolverhampton Society and other organisations from across the city.
Exhibitors also include The Wolverhampton Society, Wednesfield History Society, 101.8 WCR FM, The Homeless Period, Wolverhampton Friendship Centre Over-50s, Midland Ancestors, Friends of Wolverhampton Archives, and Wolverhampton Chess Club, Wolverhampton Photographic Society, St John Ambulance, Beacon Centre for the Blind, Wolverhampton Society and Wolverhampton Pipe Band.
This event is open to all and children are also welcome. Guests on the day can hear more about the societies and clubs and join up with any of them on the day.
Visitors can also take time to enjoy the art gallery’s new exhibition Tim Mara: Not Pop? which brings together a selection of works by the Irish printmaker Tim Mara, featuring artworks from Wolverhampton Art Gallery’s collection alongside loans from his family and Advanced Graphics London.
Councillor Harman Banger, cabinet member for economy said at the council said the event was a great opportunity for local visitors looking to try something new.
He said: “Showcase Wolves is a great opportunity for people to come together and find their new hobby within the city.
‘We have over 10 organisations joining us at the art gallery with everything from photography, art, music and first aid.
‘Visitors will also be able to see our new exhibitions Tim Mara: Not Pop? and the University of Wolverhampton MA Show.’
