Dudley record label to help fight crime
A new record company has been officially opened in the Black Country – and wants to help fight knife crime.
Urbanstarzuk is a Dudley-based record company that has now officially opened its doors, its core aims being finding fresh, local artists within the West Midlands and lowering the increasing knife crime around the region by finding younger talent and bringing them off the streets.
The label is hoping to sign artists in and around Dudley and push them to pursue a career within the music industry by giving them investments never before thought possible.
Cutting the ribbon on the day was Mayor of Dudley David Stanley, who said he was "honoured" to officially open the studio.
He said: "I fully appreciate and endorse what Urbanstarz are achieving in their new recording studio in Dudley. It's personally a wonderful thing to have in the borough. I'm hoping youngsters participate, it's always good to see facilities help to turn young lives around."
The label is hoping to have a diverse range of artists and genres signed, from pop and rap to beatbox and drum and bass. So far, there are four musicians signed, all eager to start making music - Deesantos, SJ, Jeff and Jay Montana - however they are still looking for more talent, no matter who it is, as long as they have a good sound.
Members of Urbanstarzuk, owned by Clinton Woolery and Jullian McKenzie, expressed high hopes for the future especially for the expansion of the label and the hope to "go international to form companies such as UrbanstarzAustralia and UrbanstarzUSA."
They also added that the label is "gonna be massive" and will develop into a media entertainment company to represent more people in the community than just musicians.
The record label was officially opened by the Mayor of Dudley on June 27 at its Wolverhampton Street location in Dudley and the team were "ecstatic" about the whole event.
