Ryan Adams cancels UK tour coming to Birmingham amid sexual misconduct allegations
Ryan Adams has cancelled his upcoming UK and Ireland tour - with a date at Birmingham's O2 Academy - amid sexual misconduct and emotional abuse allegations.
A post from the city centre venue's Twitter stated: “The Ryan Adams UK & Ireland tour has been cancelled.
“Full refunds to ticket purchasers from authorised outlets will be processed by end of day on Monday.
"Please allow time for the repayment transaction to hit your account.”
The news comes two weeks after the New York Times published a report containing allegations that the 44-year-old musician had exchanged sexually inappropriate messages with a teenage girl.
One of the women, a 20-year-old female musician, alleged that Adams had inappropriate conversations with her while she was 15 and 16.
His ex-wife Mandy Moore was one of the accusers, and claimed that he had been psychologically abusive towards her.
A lawyer for Adams denied the allegations of abuse to the New York Times.
Adams later posted on Twitter: “I am not a perfect man and I have made many mistakes. To anyone I have ever hurt, however unintentionally, I apologize deeply and unreservedly.
“But the picture that this article paints is upsettingly inaccurate. Some of its details are misrepresented; some are exaggerated; some are outright false. I would never have inappropriate interactions with someone I thought was underage. Period.
“As someone who has always tried to spread joy through my music and my life, hearing that some people believe I caused them pain saddens me greatly. I am resolved to work to be the best man I can be. And I wish everyone compassion, understanding and healing.
Pop star and actress Moore, who was married to Adams between 2009 and 2016, later said in a podcast that she was “so sad” during their marriage, and that she felt she was “drowning” while they were together.
Speaking on Marc Maron’s WTF podcast, she alleged her career was hindered when he became dependent on her, saying the relationship “had an entirely unhealthy dynamic”.
Since the reports, Ryan had faced a backlash online with former fans demanding refunds for his upcoming tour.
