Bostin' Himley Park festival planned to celebrate Black Country Day
A bostin' outdoor music and comedy festival will take place at Himley Hall to mark Black Country Day later this year.
The Black Country Musicom Festival will take place on July 14 and will form part of the Black Country Festival, a series of independently organised events to celebrate the day.
Tribute bands will take to the main open air stage in the grounds, including hits from Oasis, Little Mix, The Spice Girls and Queen.
A 1980s tribute party band will also perform along with local bands, steel drummers and bhangra artists.
Councillor Pete Lowe, cabinet lead member for the Black Country Festival, said: “This is hugely exciting – it’s the biggest event we have ever put on for Black Country Day and it promises to be an absolutely bostin’ day out for all the family.
“There really will be something for everyone, and we will use the money generated from ticket sales to support other free events taking place across the borough to celebrate the Black Country Festival.
“I would urge people to snap up tickets for what will be a brilliant event, celebrating who we are and where we’re from.”
A comedy tent will feature a selection of the country's top circuit comics, with a host of children's activities also taking place at the event.
A dedicated area for teenagers will also see DJs, gaming tournaments, sporting activities, virtual reality and a chill out area.
Real ale and street food will be on offer, with demonstrations of traditional Black Country crafts including canal art and glass blowing.
The Black Country Musicom will run from 12pm to 7pm.
The event is sponsored by builders merchant Jewson, brewers Blind Monkey, contractors Jessuip Brothers and builders CE Bunch and Co Ltd and Whittakers Ltd.
Vince Thurlby, of main event sponsors Jewson, said: “As a firm which is proud to trade right in the heart of the Black Country, we are delighted to be sponsoring the first Musicom at Himley Hall.
“It will be a fantastic day out.”
Tickets went on sale yesterday and cost £9 for adults aged 16 and over, £5 for children aged between five to 15, with youngsters under five going free.
Prices do not include booking fees.
Car parking costs £3 on the day.
