Sophie Ellis-Bextor to perform hits with live orchestra in Birmingham
Sophie Ellis-Bextor will bring her new headline tour to Birmingham next year.
The Song Diaries will see the singer/songwriter perform all of her hits accompanied by a live orchestra.
Speaking ahead of the show, Sophie said: “It’s so exciting to be performing hits from my entire career with full orchestral arrangements for the first time.
"This is a bit of a dream come true. I’m especially delighted that I get to do some proper full-on live disco with strings.. it’s going to be really special.”
The 39-yer-old star released debut album Read My Lips in 2001, which sold over 2 million copies worldwide and featured hit singles such as Take Me Home, Get Over You, and Murder on the Dancefloor are some of the six top singles she had.
However for most, the number one hit Groovejet (If This Ain’t Love) with Spiller was the first time fans were introduced to her distinctive voice.
This song was what initiated the beginning of her music career, and became the most played record between 2000 and 2010 on UK radio.
Over the course of her career, Sophie Ellis-Bextor has explored several genres in her music since her debut. Fused elements of folk, baroque and orchestral music made up her 2014 album Wanderlust.
Sophie elaborates, “It’s so exciting to be performing hits from my entire career with full orchestral arrangements for the first time! This is a bit of a dream come true. I’m especially delighted that I get to do some proper full-on live disco with strings.. it’s going to be really special!”
Her forthcoming album due in 2019, Orchestral Greatest Hits, inspires the basis for her performances. Working with long term collaborator and album producer Ed Harcourt, orchestral arrangements by Amy Langley (Dirty Pretty Strings), and additional production from David Arnold to create the album.
Sophie Ellis Bextor will play Birmingham's Symphony Hall on June 8.
