The Whitney Houston Show, Wolverhampton Grand Theatre - review
The Greatest Love of All: The Whitney Houston Show at Wolverhampton’s Grand Theatre really does celebrate the music and memory of the popular artist.
With Belinda Davids’ vocals - it is as close as a singer can get to replicating Whitney Houston’s voice. If you were to close your eyes, you might think it was the queen of pop herself.
During the show, the South African singer delighted fans with a performance of hits from Whitney’s career that came to a tragic end with her untimely death in 2012.
It’s easy to see why Belinda proved so popular with UK audiences when she appeared on BBC’s 2017 show Even Better Than The Real Thing which saw the “UK’s best tribute acts” competing against each other.
The show’s songbook includes I Wanna Dance With Somebody, One Moment In Time, I’m Every Woman, Where Do Broken Hearts Go, Million Dollar Bill and a stunning finale of I Will Always Love You.
During the two-hour production, Belinda is accompanied by a live band and dancers - who were also mesmerising to watch.
She had the audience on their feet, dancing and clapping along to How Will I Know, I Wanna Dance With Somebody and I’m Every Woman. While power ballads I Have Nothing, Run To You and Saving All My Love For You had them swaying and singing along to every word.
And the finale of I Will Always Love You from the 1992 hit film The Bodyguard, accompanied by a on-screen run through of Whitney’s career, was enough to bring a lump to your throat.
Belinda asked the Wolverhampton theatre audience if she could return to the venue to perform next year - and was answered with an astounding yes. So make sure you catch her if you can!
It is a breathtaking show - which even non-Whitney fans will enjoy.
