Daughtry, O2 Academy, Birmingham - review with pics
It was No Surprise Daughtry performed to a packed out O2 Academy in Birmingham last night.
The chart-topping rock band - led by American Idol finalist Chris Daughtry - appeared on stage to deafening cheers, mixed with screams of ‘we love you Chris!’
The 38-year-old looked utterly relaxed, dressed in a black and red patterned shirt - left casually open at the top.
“What’s up Birmingham,” he drawled, in his famous southern American accent.
“Good to see you again. Damn you all look good tonight.”
Kicking off the set with brand new song Just Found Heaven, from this year’s album Cage to Rattle, Chris had the crowd captivated from the moment he stepped on stage.
“I hope you don’t mind we’ll be playing some new songs tonight,” he said.
Introducing another new track, Backbone, the singer added: “This song goes out to anyone who had a s*** day, week, month, or year.
“We all go through hard times, and have our ups and downs in life. In order to get through these hard times we ought to have some backbone right?”
Deep End - another song from Daughtry’s newest album - followed, much to the delight of crowds.
And then Chris turned his attention to performing a few crowd-pleasing hits, from what he called ‘the good album’, the self-named Daughtry album from 2006.
A poignant hit, Going Home had the entire room singing along - as did another famous hit Breakdown.
The singer said: “You guys ever feel like you have to work extra hard to fit in?
“You don’t have to do anything to please everyone, you just have to be yourself.”
Introducing the next song - another new one - As You Are he added: “Be you and surround yourself with people who love you for that.”
And new track from 2018 White Flag swiftly followed, with Chris encouraging everyone to join in with the chorus.
Ending the night with September followed by an impressive cover of Prince hit Purple Rain, Chris said: “You guys have been amazing. Thank you so much for tonight.
"Thank you for supporting us and keeping us alive.”
Daughtry performed a spectacular show at O2 Academy. It’s Not Over? Well, we definitely didn’t want it to be.
