Saturday’s WolvesFest on Saturday, June 16 saw almost 800 people pack out a huge marquee at the Castlecroft Road club for an evening celebrating local musicians.

Organiser Shaun Ryan said overall it was a ‘great day’.

He announced he is already considering plans for 2019 – which will be the fifth consecutive annual WolvesFest. to run in a row.

“It all turned out really well in the end,” said Shaun.

“There were loads of kids in the day having a brilliant time, running around in the sun.

“And the bands were fantastic, I think everyone enjoyed themselves.”

Bands and singers in the line-up included Wolverhampton groups Tinned Astronaut and The Icon, and Upper Gornal singer Alex Ohm, whom Shaun singled out as being ‘destined for greatness’.

He praised all the musicians on the day, saying they did an ‘excellent job’.

Shaun added: “It was a really nice, friendly event. The bar made thousands of pounds – but we don’t know how much yet – for the club. The weather was good too, nice and sunny but we still had loads of people in the marquee.”

WolvesFest raises money each year for the rugby club, which sees hundreds of children and adults train there each week.

Club bosses recently upgraded the changing rooms at the grounds, at a cost of £750,000 in total.

Shaun has confirmed WolvesFest will be taking place again next year, as well as a new event – The Black Country Music Awards. He added: “It’s early days but I want to celebrate the music we have here. It would be great to put the Black Country on the map.”
