The Flapper had been due to cease trading on June 30 - an announcement which was met with petitions signed by thousands in a bid to keep the canalside attraction open.

Owners of the venue have today revealed they have accepted a 12-month lease extension from landlords Baskerville Wharf, while they review their redevelopment plans previously submitted to the council.

"Baskerville Wharf, the owners of The Flapper public house, have offered The Flapper Ltd business an extension of 12 months while we continue our discussions with Birmingham City Council," says the statement.

"Plans were submitted in November 2017 for the site’s redevelopment and, while we have withdrawn the current application, we are considering the submission of revised proposals later in 2018.

"The Flapper Ltd has accepted our offer and will now remain open for business until June 30, 2019."

The venue says all planned Celebration Of The Flapper events will continue to take place.

"We have a few details to sort through regarding the Final Weekend of Friday, June 29, and Saturday, June 30, so please keep an eye on the Facebook event page for further updates," said The Flapper in a statement released this afternoon.

"Please help us spread the word that The Flapper is staying open.

"We'll be getting our heads down booking in some great shows and organising some amazing events for next 12 months."

The previously-lodged plans were to build a multi-million pound flat block in place of the The Flapper.
