Adore Delano, The Asylum, Birmingham - review

First on the bill to warm up the crowd however, were Birmingham art collective Drag Punk, made up of performers Lilith, Amber Cadaverous, Paul Aleksandr and Tacky Alex.

Each member of the quartet presented something wacky and different which cemented the group's message of championing weirdness and owning being an outsider.

Lilith delighted rockers in the room with a head-banging mashup of Britney Spears' Toxic and A Static Lullaby's cover of the same track. She channelled the energy of each song flawlessly with strong dance moves and a tight lip sync.

Amber performed a powerful piece that explored a woman's place in the drag community, with lip sync routines to the likes of Shania Twain's Man! I Feel Like A Woman and Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.

Paul followed this emotive piece with a routine that encapsulated the group's weird and wonderful message. He danced expertly to Drag Race winner Jinkx Monsoon's cover of Radiohead hit Creep, interspersed with lines from cult film Beetlejuice and 4 Non Blonde's rock anthem What's Up.

Tacky closed Drag Punk's set with a comedic performance that paid homage to children's show Spongebob Squarepants, complete with dialogue from the show and a hysterical lip sync to The Goofy Goober song.

The four piece took to the stage once more to act out their own elimination lip syncs in the style of hit TV series RuPaul's Drag Race. They delivered strong performances to songs from the likes of The Pointer Sisters, Hole, Lady Gaga and Shania Twain that had the entire crowd dancing along.

Drag Punk showcased a variety of talents in a glittering show that highlighted the group's important inclusive message in style.

A single chord from an electric guitar caused the entire crowd to scream as they eagerly anticipated the arrival of Drag Race season six contestant Adore.

Adore Delano, the drag persona of former America's Got Talent contestant Danny Noriega, graced the stage in a wild wig and tasselled leather outfit that embodied rock 'n' roll.

The star's attitude and vocal style matched her fashion choice as she strutted across the stage as if she owned it, before belting out hits from her third studio album, Whatever.

Adore showcased an incredible vocal range throughout the entire set. From the raging No School to heartfelt Pretty Boys Cry, her voice carried the emotive lyrics perfectly and caused the energetic room to erupt.

The backing band carried the post-punk singles to new heights. Intricate guitar chords brought songs such as Whole Nine Yards and Witch Hunt to life, accompanied by rolling drum sections and a booming bass line.

It was not just Adore's music that allowed her to control the crowd in the palm of her hand, but also her endearing attitude and crowd interaction.

"Thank you all so much for coming out. I truly love you all, and love making music for you all," the Californian star gushed, before engaging in friendly banter with the audience.

Adore regularly jumped into the crowd to sing directly to her audience and create a truly electric atmosphere for all to enjoy.

Ending the show on hit singles DTF and Negative Nancy, Adore Delano proved that she is not just a reality TV show star with a jaw-dropping show that highlighted her sheer musical talent.
