Lead singer Frank Turner leaps on to the crowd, while the audience religiously shouts back the words.

Welcome to the heavy metal gig: this is Mongol Horde.

Only around 200 people packed in the O2 Institute 2 in Birmingham, but it felt like more - many more - with the intensity of Saturday night's concert reaching maximum levels.

Meanwhile, only three people formed the band: Turner on the vocals, Matt Nasir on the guitar and Ben Dawson on the drums.

The noise they gave out, however, mad up for their numbers. This was heavy metal at its finest.

From the start Turner worked the crowd, jumping into the mire as the audience members got a feeling of what they were up for.

The band have just one self-titled album so far. And from that they played most of their songs, the highlight being Staff to Refund the Counter with Turner screaming out the 'I want my money back' vocals while being carried over the crowd.

This was not for the faint-hearted. But those new to heavy metal punk, like me, need not fear. Turner worked the crowd so well, while the music was uplifting.

Great band, great gig.

I won't be asking for my money back.
