Wolvesfest to return for 2018

A music festival will be returning to Wolverhampton for a fourth time this summer, with local bands already bagging a highly sought-after spot in the line-up.

Wolvesfest Music Festival will be held on June 16 at the city's Rugby Club in Castlecroft - and tickets can be snapped up from as early as next month.

Already organisers have confirmed 16 acts will be performing, with eight live bands and eight acoustic acts including Wolverhampton groups Tinned Astronaut and The Icon.

Last year's event proved a huge success, showcasing the best in Birmingham and Black Country talent. Organised by the rugby club itself, it aims to raise funds for the development of the club and its many adult and junior teams.

Festival organiser Shaun Ryan said he hoped the 2018 festival would be even bigger and better than last year.

He said: "We're hoping for 2,000 people. Last year was a very good year as we had such nice weather, but it's growing steadily. We just want more people to know what the event is like, it's family friendly.

"Last year we raised £10,000 for the club, which sounds like a lot of money but doesn't go very far. We recently upgraded our changing rooms which cost £750,000 - but their one of the best in the country. We get 300 kids playing rugby on a Sunday here. We'd just like to raise some awareness, and of course, give local bands a platform too."

Councillor Wendy Thompson, who represents the Tettenhall and Wightwick area where the festival is held, said she was so pleased Wolvesfest was making a come-back for 2018.

Mrs Thompson said: "As long as it finishes again at a reasonable time for local residents, I welcome it. It sounds jolly, positive, and just what Wolverhampton could do with.

"Hopefully we'll have some lovely summer weather."

As well as music there will also be food and merchandise stalls, inflatable fun, laser battles, real ales; all under one huge marquee with two stage areas. Visitors are told not to bother bringing their own wellies, as the event caters for all weathers.

Children under 16 are welcome free of charge as long as they are accompanied by an adult, but there are no facilities for toddlers. Visitors are reminded, like last year, that children aged under six cannot stay past 8pm.

Wolvesfest Music Festival begins at 3pm this year and early bird tickets cost £10 or £15 on the door. Visit wolvesfest.com for tickets and future announcements.
