The 74-year-old singer from New Jersey will appear with Jimmy James and the Vagabonds at the Robin 2 club on September 8.

Ben E King's solo hits include the classic Stand by Me. He also had a string of hits with The Drifters, including Save The Last Dance for Me and There Goes My Baby.

Club boss Mike Hamblett said: "It is the first time we have had Ben E King come here. It is a great coup to have such a big name coming to the Robin along with Jimmy James and his band.

"They are both big favourites with soul fans and real legends.

"The show is attracting a lot of interest. It will be a night not to be missed.

"The tickets are already selling well even though our latest programme has only just been announced."

The evening will feature a DJ playing Motown and Stax hits from 6pm until the show at 8pm.

Tickets are £25 on the door or £22.50 in advance from the club in Mount Pleasant.
