Concert review - 10cc at The Robin 2, Bilston

Think of a talented bass guitarist with lots of 60s and 70s hits behind him. No not Sir Paul Mccartney, but Graham Gouldman leading 10cc through a rollicking sing-a-long night of their greatest hits at the Robin 2 in Bilston.

Think of a talented bass guitarist with lots of 60s and 70s hits behind him. No not Sir Paul Mccartney, but Graham Gouldman leading 10cc through a rollicking sing-a-long night of their greatest hits at the Robin 2 in Bilston.

Conjoined with stalwart Paul Burgess, who has been their drummer on tour and in sessions since 1973, and later additions Mike Stevens, Rick Fenn and Mick Wilson, they created a lively party atmosphere last night.

After a refreshing opening set from support band Letters to Daisy, 10cc came on to rapturous applause with their irreverent rocker The Second Sitting for the Last Supper, originally on their The Original Soundtrack album.

The atmosphere at the Robin 2 was lively but friendly considering it was packed to the rafters.

The band continued with highlights Wall Street Shuffle, Things We do For Love and I'm Mandy Fly Me.

They even strayed into progressive territory with Feel The Benefit which highlighted some competent guitar playing from Rick Fenn.

Other highlights were Donna, The Dean and I and Rubber Bullets with added saxophone – which came after they got the crowd chanting 'We want sax'.

The harmonies were good, the playing excellent and the company full of 'joie de vivre' .

In Dreadlock Holiday they even sang "I don't like Bilston, I love it!" Oh, and they finished with an accapella version of Donna.

Mr Gouldman didn't bother us with any of his sixties songs such as No Milk Today, Bus Stop or Look Through Any Window – sad really but we were none the worse for it.

Led by their lynch-pin Graham Gouldman 10cc gave us a real party. We all went home singing and in a boisterous mood.
