Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra prepare for European tour

As young athletes from around the world converge on the UK to represent their countries in the London Olympics, Wolverhampton is also preparing teams of its own to to represent the city.

Each summer the Wolverhampton Youth Wind Orchestra and the Wolverhampton Youth Orchestra take their show on a European tour.

Their pre-tour concert gave supporters a gold medal performance of the music the groups will perform for audiences in Malta and Gozo over the coming weeks.

The Rotary Clubs of Wolverhampton have been supporting the orchestras summer tours for 19 years, helping to ensure that all musicians are able to take part in the tour, regardless of financial restrictions.

The support which Rotary and other sponsors give to the two orchestras is more than amply repaid by the dedication and talent of these fine young musicians.

An established award ceremony rewards excellence which individuals have earned throughout the year.

Special congratulations were awarded to Wolverhampton's young musician of the year - Matthew Leach and for his moving performance of Horovitz's Concerto for Euphonium.

Many musicians reach high standards across several instruments, which is testament to their own talent and dedication and the invaluable support which the Wolverhampton Music School and conductors Keith Sedgebeer and Ian Brailsford provide.

Most importantly for Rotary members of the Tettenhall Club is the fellowship within the club and the group are proud to see the same spirit within the Youth Orchestras with many former members returning to show their support for the current members.
