Concert review: Chris Rea at Birmingham NIA
He's had a career spanning more than 30 years, but Chris Rea certainly hasn't run out of ideas.
Chris Rea,
NIA, Birmingham
He's had a career spanning more than 30 years, but Chris Rea certainly hasn't run out of ideas.
The 61-year-old played a lively show at Birmingham's NIA last night, bouncing around the stage with the energy of a teenage rocker on his first gig.
The show had a little something for everyone, with Rea treating fans to many of the classic hits, while he still took time to showcase some of his more recent songs.
Much of the audience appeared to be waiting for the big hits, and it wasn't until Rea started strumming The Road to Hell, towards the end of the set, that the crowd began to get on their feet.
One notable abscene from the playlist was his 1978 hit Fool (If You Think It's Over), but perhaps it wouldn't have slotted in well with some of the more bluesy numbers.
Despite a fairly muted crowd, Rea made sure everyone went home with a spring in their step when he played 1987 single Let's Dance as part of the encore, which had people doing just that in the aisles.
