A real book worm – Mark in Ironbridge

Crime author Mark Edwards has moved closer to home with his latest thriller The Lucky Ones.

Mostly set in Shropshire, the Wolverhampton writer’s new book gives readers an insight into the mind of a serial killer who has a twisted notion of happiness.

Their victims appear to die in a state of bliss thanks to a morphine overdose before being discovered in secluded locations around the county with a smile frozen on their face.

“The killer has a reason for choosing the places they do but it would be a spoiler to say why,” says father of four Mark, aged 46.

He says he had many reasons for setting his latest story in Shropshire.

“I wanted it to be set in an idyllic place, I liked the idea of ugly things happening in beautiful places.

“I also wanted to get out of setting books in London and I thought Shropshire might also appeal to American readers who like classic English countryside scenes,” adds Mark.

One of the main characters in The Lucky Ones is Detective Imogen Evans, who begins investigating the serial killer after a woman’s body is discovered near Wenlock Priory.

Described as tough and fiery, she has moved to the county from London and is finding it hard to adjust to a quieter way of life.

There is also single father Ben Hofland who has returned to his home town of Ironbridge with his son, Ollie, following the breakdown of his marriage.

Readers will soon discover that the killer likes to manipulate the lives of his targets before they die so that their fortunes improve.

So when Ben starts to believe his luck has changed they may be correct to suspect that there is more to it than meets the eye.

“He is unaware that someone is watching him and Ollie,” explains Mark, who is remaining tight-lipped on what happens to his protagonist.

The Lucky Ones, published by Thomas & Mercer, is available from Amazon. It costs £8.99 paperback or £3.98 ebook

Review: The Lucky Ones, by Mark Edwards

Here at Woman we got our hands on a copy of Mark’s new book – which came out last week – and we couldn’t put it down.

This is yet another successful psychological thriller by the writer. It’s fast-paced, spine-tinglingly creepy and full of twists and turns and it’ll have you trying to figure out who the Viper is right up to the very end.

With locations such as Ironbridge, Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock and Hopton Wood mentioned throughout, it makes it all the more terrifying as you can picture the places where all the bad stuff is happening.

Another thrilling page-turner and a five-star read. Keep writing!
