Birmingham's Dragpunk host spooktacular Halloween show - in pictures
Birmingham group Dragpunk hosted a spooktacular event at the city's Nightingale club last weekend as part of their Halloween celebrations.
The quartet - made up of Brummie drag queens Paul Aleksander, Lilith, Tacky and Amber Cadaverous - hosted Drag! Me To Hell as part of Nightingale's bumper Halloween programme, which continues this Friday with club night I'm Not Okay vs Emo Disco Halloween Party.
The theatrical show also featured fellow local performers Tanja McKenzie, Ev Seration, Cosmic Crum, and London queen Ruby Wednesday.
Speaking of the success of the show, Paul said that the initial risk of putting on a show with performers that aren't universally famous had paid off.
"The performers were all a joy to work with before and on the night," he added.
"They really helped out and did well on and off stage.
"There seemed to be a really lovely atmosphere, it was intimate and full, we sold a lot more tickets than anticipated and it was lovely seeing people there from all walks of life, especially those that don’t go out clubbing on the scene which a lot of LGBTQ events revolve around.
In the future, Paul says that Dragpunk want to develop more audience interaction and socialisation in their shows to nurture a safe and fun environment for attendees.
"For the next event we will have a special preshow social at a lovely LGBTQ bar nearby, and will fine tune everything about the show," he said.
"From the tech, to timings, to presentation, we will polish it all."
Following the success of Drag! Me To Hell, Dragpunk are set to host Christmas show Jingle Hells on December 14 at the Nightingale.
The show will feature the Dragpunk performers, Tanja McKenzie, Dahlia Rivers, Christian Gay and The Ho Ho Hoes, as well as special guest Herr.
"We want to keep reinventing the themes and ideas of the shows so Jingle Hells! will have the substance we hope people expect but entirely different content," Paul continued.
"A new theme, new ways of presenting it, but all with that theatre intimacy and quality and variety of performances we had at Halloween. Tied up as a slightly alternative and unusual Christmas".
