Halestorm, O2 Academy, Birmingham - review and pictures
'We’re all freaks Birmingham!’
Halestorm rocked out at O2 Academy Birmingham last night with their new tour Vicious, to celebrate their fourth and latest studio album.
The American hard rock band performed to a packed out city centre venue, supported by fellow back bands Rews and Avatar.
Lead singer Lzzy Hale stunned fans with her mind-blowing vocals from start to finish.
With her short, black spiky hair and enviable leather fringe jacket - the slender rocker sure packed a punch with her unbelievable voice.
The guy next to me summed it up perfectly: “To be fair, she’s got an epic set of pipes on her.”
Kicking off the set at 9.30pm with Do Not Disturb 34-year-old Lzzy welcomed the crowd: “What’s shaking Birmingham? We are so happy to be here, thank you so much for coming out.
“All we wanna do is rock. Thank you so much for throwing the party tonight. This is all you.”
The Pennsylvanian group, with Lzzy’s brother Arejay Hale on drums, lead guitarist Joe Hottinger and bassist Josh Smith, also played hit song Love Bites (So Do I) from 2012 album The Strange Case Of… which was met with an earth-shattering roar of approval from fans.
To the delight of crowds they also smashed out popular tracks I Miss The Misery, Amen, Freak Like Me and I Am The Fire.
Lzzy was on fire herself throughout the night.
Shouting out to the crowd she said: “You guys are amazing, you know that right? Let me hear you go ‘I am amazing!’
“I want you to leave here feeling awesome. It’s been an amazing tour so far. Thank you so much for asking us back. It’s a big deal to be back here. We’ve been dreaming of touring the UK since we started Halestorm when I was 13.”
The band performed a dynamic 90 minute set, including several songs from their newest album Vicious; Golden, Black Vultures, and Skulls.
They closed the night with another favourite, Here’s To Us.
Waving goodbye, the lead singer added before leaving: “Here’s to rock and roll, here’s to live music, here’s to Birmingham!”
Can I get an Amen for Halestorm?
