Nemo's Fish Bar, in Lower Gornal, Dudley, will donate £1 from each sale to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

The Lake Street-based business launched the festive treat yesterday.

Sausages are wrapped in bacon before being deep-fried and customers can buy five for £2.50.

Some of the shop's customers have children who have been treated at the hospital.

Jeevan Johal, 35, from Willenhall, who runs the store, said: "Every year we always do pigs in blanket as a special thing.

"As it always gets a good turnout, we thought we would do something close to our hearts, for children who don't get to be at home during Christmas.

"We have had a few customers that have had family members or someone close to them that has been in the hospital."

Cause

The chip shop, which has been in Jeevan's family since 2007, regularly carries out charitable work.

Earlier this year, Nemo's raised £300 for Brockswood Animal Sanctuary, in Sedgley, to buy CCTV after a break-in. The firm did this by donating all profits made from selling scallops.

Nemo's also provided free school meals for children during the summer when the issue came into the spotlight.

"We always do something for charity or donate money to a good cause," Jeevan said.

Asked about how makes the battered pigs in blankets, he said: "We get the bacon and we wrap it around small sausages.

"We then put on like a powder, which we always put on our food, before battering it which gives it this nice golden look. All the batter that we use is natural."

He added: "We have been five star hygiene rated for over 10 years and we also have silver eating awards with the NHS, down to the way we cook our meat and fry our food."
