The crime thriller series is set in the Black Country and features no-nonsense character Detective Kim Stone.

Her previous follow-up novels – Evil Games, Lost Girls, Play Dead, Blood Lines, Dead Souls, Broken Bones and Dying Truth – have all hit the online bookseller Amazon's top 10 list.

And her latest instalment Killing Mind this month rocketed to the number one spot on the Kindle charts within hours of the advance orders being made available.

Since Silent Scream was published on February 20, 2015 it has gone on to sell over a million copies in 28 languages.

She started writing seriously when money became tight after being made redundant from her job of 19 years, and her disabled partner was recovering from major surgery.

Ms Marsons hit rock bottom and after being turned down for a job in an Amazon warehouse, the couple were forced to sell their belongings and borrow from family members to pay the mortgage – the prospect of losing their home was a very real one.

In autumn 2014 she had a changed in fortunes when her work was snapped up by publishers Bookouture.

Ms Marsons says: "Reaching 4m sales really is a dream come true. I could never have imagined finding so many readers and am so thankful to Bookouture, for helping me bring Kim Stone to life.

"Readers really have taken Kim Stone and the other characters into their hearts and I couldn’t have wished for a more devoted audience."

Last November a surprise book, First Blood and the prequel to the series, was also published.

All her books are available from bookshops, Amazon, Apple Books, Kobo and Googleplay.
